Blake CSA 2011-2012 Highlights and Accomplishments
The Blake CSA is proud to report that the following programs and purchases were made possible by our many volunteers and supporters. Thank you all for helping us enrich the education of our youth here at Blake Middle School.

Strategic Planning:

• Communicated CSA news to parents via the Blake Newsflash
• Updated and maintained the CSA website and calendar in an ongoing effort to improve communication between the school and parents
• Set aside funds for the 2012-2013 school year

Funded Programs:

• Author visit from Yoko Kawashima Watkins for 7^th graders
• Shakespeare Now Theatre performance (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) for 6^th graders
• Higgins Armory presentation related to the Middle Ages unit for 8^th graders
• Latino Dance troupe La Pinata for 8^th graders
• Scholarships for Washington DC 8^th grade and Nature’s Classroom 7^th grade trips
• Career Day breakfast held for 8^th graders
• Co-funded with MCPE the replacement of vertical blinds in the gymnasium
• Provided funding for the purchase of games and craft supplies in support of recess initiative
• Funded the purchase of Nystrom Desk Atlas for 6^th grade social studies
• Funded purchase of an iMac for library with SCRIP proceeds
• Funded the program “Having Fun with Pyramids” to be presented on November 27, 2012 to all 7^th grade students
• Funded through SCRIP profits a speaker system to enhance the sound quality in the auditorium
• Funded purchase of bulbs and gardening supplies to beautify courtyard and establish a garden for summer school students to tend

Fundraising:

• Organized summer reading book sale, proceeds from which go to the literacy fund and library book purchases
• Managed SCRIP sales, which this year funded an iMac for the library and a speaker system for the auditorium as well as trip scholarships
• Organized fundraisers to help families offset the cost of both the Nature’s Classroom via SCRIP and the 8^th grade trip, including Meadow Farms gift wrap and Classic Cookies brand cookie dough sales and SCRIP
• Managed Royal Pizza night on the first Monday of each month
• Arranged with Subway to hold a Blake fundraiser the 3^rd Tuesday of each month giving 20% of receipts back to Blake
• Continued collection of General Mills Box tops to raise funds for the CSA

Teacher Appreciation:

• Provided funds for breakfasts for teachers and staff to promote goodwill and collegiality
• Gave gifts to administrative staff in recognition of their help to CSA
• Sponsored teacher luncheons and teacher appreciation week efforts
• Co-ordinated with the Boosters a year end barbeque lunch for Blake and High School staff

Treats for Students:

• Snacks during MCAS testing, including Ronnie’s Slush at completion
• 8^th grade cookout and closing ceremony reception
• 7^th grade ice cream social on June 21

Supplies:

• Funded Nurse’s office for purchase of crackers, ginger ale and water for sick students
