Blake CSA 2012-2013 Highlights and Accomplishments
The Blake CSA is proud to report that the following programs and purchases were made possible by our many volunteers and supporters. Thank you all for helping us enrich the education of our youth here at Blake Middle School.

Strategic Planning:

  • Communicated CSA news to parents via the Blake Newsflash
  • Updated and maintained the CSA website and calendar in an ongoing effort to improve communication between the school and parents
  • Set aside funds for the 2013-2014 school year

Funded Programs:

  • $5000 in support of the iPad pilot program
  • Summer garden project
  • All school guest speaker Richard DeSorgher
  • Scholastic Math Magazine “Race for the Presidency” for 7th graders
  • A one-year Junior Scholastic magazine subscription for 7 grade social studies classrooms
  • Author visit from Yoko Kawashima Watkins for 7th graders
  • Shakespeare Now Theatre performance (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) for 6th graders
  • Higgins Armory presentation related to the Middle Ages unit for 8th graders
  • Latino Dance troupe La Pinata for 8th graders
  • Scholarships for Washington DC 8th grade and Nature’s Classroom 7th grade trips
  • Career Day breakfast for 8th graders
  • Co-funded with MCPE and SEPAC the Project Moves Dance performance “Accept...me”
  • Purchase of new recess equipment
  • Communications board for entryway and cafeteria
  • “Having Fun with Pyramids and Pharoahs” program
  • Bingo party for 7th grade students
  • Co-funded with MCPE all school read Wonder author visit by R.J. Palacio for fall 2013
  • Art Display initiative

Fundraising:

  • Organized summer reading book sale, proceeds from which go to the literacy fund and library book purchases
  • Managed SCRIP sales, which this year funded a communications board for the school’s entryway and cafeteria, an art display initiative as well as Nature’s Classroom and Washington D.C. scholarship assistance
  • Organized fundraisers to help families offset the cost of both the Nature’s Classroom via SCRIP and the 8th grade trip, including Meadow Farms gift wrap and Innisbrook brand cookie dough sales and SCRIP
  • Managed Royal Pizza night on the second Tuesday of each month
  • Arranged with Subway to hold a Blake fundraiser the 4th Tuesday of each month giving 20% of receipts back to Blake
  • Continued collection of General Mills Box tops to raise funds for the CSA
  • Ran bi-annual NSTAR lightbulb sale

Teacher Appreciation:

  • Provided funds for breakfasts for teachers and staff to promote goodwill and collegiality
  • Gave gifts to administrative staff in recognition of their help to CSA
  • Donated books to Blake library in honor of Principal and Dean of Students
  • Sponsored teacher luncheons and teacher appreciation week efforts which included a refurbishing of the teacher’s lounge
  • Co-ordinated with the High School’s PTO a year end barbeque lunch for Blake and High School staff

Treats for Students:

  • Snacks during MCAS testing, including Ronnie’s Slush at completion
  • 8th grade cookout and closing ceremony reception
  • 7th grade ice cream social on June 21

Supplies:

  • Funded Nurse’s office for purchase of crackers, ginger ale and water for sick students
